BMW Low-seat Demo Rides and Suzuki
Off-road Activities Unveiled at the NEC Motorcycle
Show
23rd October 2008
Long
time show manufacturer supporters BMW and Suzuki have
developed new initiatives for the activity packed
Carole Nash International Motorcycle and Scooter Show.
The Show, held from 28th November to 7th December
at the Birmingham NEC, will now include a special
BMW Low Seat Demo Zone for the shorter rider and the
all new Suzuki Off-Road Experience.
BMW Motorrad will bring a fleet of six Low Seat bikes
to the Show to allow visitors to ride them and get
an experience of their low speed manoeuvrability.
BMW is the first motorcycle manufacturer to launch
a range of models that can be ordered from the factory
with lowered suspension – to provide customers
with low seat height options. Visitors will be given
riding tuition by experienced instructors from BMW
Rider Training.
Feedback
from female, novice and shorter riders confirmed that
controlling a machine can be difficult at slow speeds,
especially when riding motorcycles with a higher seat
height. These riders feel more secure when they are
able to place their feet firmly on the ground, especially
under stop-start conditions.
Anyone wishing to take part will need to have a full
motorcycle licence (restricted to under 25Kw acceptable)
and be wearing a suitable protective helmet, jacket
and gloves (a small selection will also be made available
on loan) Models available include F800 S Sports and
ST Sports Tourer, F650 GS Enduro and R1200 R Roadster/GS
Enduro/R1200 RT Tourer.
The Suzuki Off Road Experience is an all new activity
designed to bring the fun of off-road riding from
the great outdoors inside the NEC Halls! Riders aged
6 and over# will be able to experience the fun of
riding a motocross bike with full kit, (helmet, goggles
& boots) and tuition from qualified Moto-X coaches.
A giant inflatable safety wall lines the 50m x 10m
circuit and safety will be paramount. DR-Z70 and DR-Z125
machines will be available as used at outdoor Moto-X
training days on full size MX tracks.
Riding and bookings for both Suzuki and BMW activities
will take place each day in the relevant Hall of the
NEC.
Tony Jakeman, Marketing Manager BMW Motorrad said,
“We wanted to do something a little different
for the Show and we’ve had so much feedback
that many riders find modern bikes too high and therefore
intimidating, this seemed an obvious activity to help
support the Show.”
Paul de Lusignan, General Manager Suzuki Motorcycles
commented, “The Suzuki Off-Road Experience should
help youngsters especially to feel the excitement
of off-road riding but in a safe and controlled environment.”
Finlay McAllan, Managing Director of MCI Exhibitions
added, “To have two of our long time manufacturer
partners suggest different schemes to open up biking
to new, broader audiences is fantastic. We believe
both activities will really add something to the show
for all visitors.”
