Ducati Streetfighter, 1198 and 1100 Monster Unleashed at the NEC Motorcycle Show

13th November 2008

Ducati StreetfighterDucati is set to unleash several showstopping new models at the forthcoming Carole Nash International Motorcycle and Scooter Show, including an awesome Streetfighter, big-bore 1198 Superbike, 1100 Monster and a Troy Bayliss World Superbike tribute 1098 machine.

Ducati has had great racing success this year by winning both the World and British Superbike Championships and will be showing off a dazzling display of track-bred technology at the show, which is hosted at the Birmingham NEC from 28th November- 7th December.

The Streetfighter as it is simply known, is set to be a potential ‘star of the show’ with a full 1098 Superbike engine, awesome naked styling and state-of-the-art technology. With a 155bhp of power and massive torque on tap, it produces the best power to weight ratio in its class and brings a new level of technology to the naked sector.

The Streetfighter is also available in a “S” version equipped with Öhlins suspension, lightweight forged Marchesini wheels, carbon fibre parts and a street-going Ducati Traction Control.

The new Ducati 1198, while maintaining the same look as the previous 1098, is in fact a totally new machine. The 1198, which now produces a 170bhp from its new Testastretta Evoluzione engine, and has a dry weight of just 171kg, incorporates all of the World Superbike technology derived directly from the 2008 Championship winning race bike of Troy Bayliss.

The Ducati Data Analysis, supplied as standard equipment on the 1198 and Streetfighter S models, enables the retrieval and analysis of data collected from a track session or road trip. The innovative road-going Ducati Traction Control (DTC) system monitors front and rear wheel speeds to detect rear wheelspin under acceleration and electronically reduces engine power to restore traction. DTC, which offers a choice of eight settings, provides a considerable increase in safety during mid-corner acceleration.

To celebrate Troy Bayliss’ World Championship winning year and his departure from racing, Ducati has created a limited edition 1098 R ‘Bayliss’ Limited edition in a stunning tribute paintscheme. Indeed one bike – the 1098R, has triumphed in four different championships; World Superbike, European Superstock, British Superbike and British SuperCup. To celebrate this incredible achievement Ducati UK has teamed up with Odeon Entertainment – the producers of the 2008 British Superbike Season Review DVD to offer a stunning Monster 696 as a prize in a free to enter competition on stand 2J70. The Monster 696 is worth £5,800 and is the most successful selling Monster in Ducati’s history.

The 1100 Monster is expected to follow the success of the 696 and take on the ultra-competitive naked muscle-bike market across Europe and although the 1198 is the ultimate expression of Ducati performance, this bike represents Ducati style and the ‘less is more’ philosophy behind all Monsters, at an affordable price.

Ducati also has another major announcement to shout about at the show and unveil to the British biking public. From 2009 every new Ducati will be supplied with a Dainese back-protector as part of the brand’s commitment to rider safety.

In addition, Ducati will present many new accessories, special components and a new collection of Ducati clothing, all items which retain an iconic feel to them.

Tim Maccabee, Managing Director Ducati UK, said “This is definitely our strongest ever new model line-up so there is a great expectation amongst our customers to see them in the flesh at the NEC. We’re also especially proud of our recent racing achievements with MotoGP last year followed up by World and British Superbikes this season.”

Finlay McAllan, Managing Director of MCI Exhibitions, commented: “What a great line-up! Ducati certainly adds to the exotic and powerful new machines on display. The first decision for showgoers will be where to go first!”
